Typical Levis
Overall, I’ve been getting more and more disgusted when I purchase jeans. I mean, I’m not a teenager so I am simply not interested in torn up, faded jeans that cost as much as a car payment. I also have seen the trend towards really thin fabrics, like jeans are just for looks, and durability is no longer something that is high on the list of desirable qualities. The Levis brand is one that I feel like I can always come back to and have a decent sense of what I’ll get. I will say that the fabrics have gotten thinner over the years, but are still generally thicker and better manufactured than the other jeans I have tried. I have ordered two pairs of the 550s (Med stonewash) and have been pleased with the color. We have a relaxed dress environment at work and I can wear them without looking like I’m trying to emulate the style of a 15 year old.

When function is the highest factor
I’m a fairly simple shopper when it comes to clothes. I buy most of my pants from Sears, and those are always Levi 550s. They are, quite simply, the most appealing jeans I’ve worn, and I’ve been wearing them exclusively for about 5 years now. They don’t tear that easily and they hold up for a long time if you take care of them and wash them on a regular basis. While it is true that some other brands, such as Lee, have somewhat softer material, I’ve always returned to these workhorses. I prefer black usually, which has the normal problem of fading to gray after a time, but they stay black for a respectably long time. Perfect for everyday situations. I really don’t see a reason to wear any other jeans!

Product good, but…
Pants are good, as expected from Levis, but the very annoying problem here is the distributor: Bealls Florida.
Their “customer support” is a total shame, they insulted me in my second order because I complained about their shipping method. I deleted 114 items from my wishlist that were from Bealls Florida and will never purchase again from them. Item 5 stars, Bealls Florida -5 stars.

Size advice

While much of the negative commentary concerned Levi Strauss’s move away from domestic manufacturing has focused on the button-fly 501s, the bigger problem I have seen is with the old 1970′s standby, the 505, which has a zipper as opposed to button fly. The variability on sizing and sew quality with the 505s is an issue if you are going to buy them online or mail order. You really have to try them on to see how they fit. The 501 are much easier to buy online or by mail order because the sizing is much less critical on the waist, which is the so-called “anti-fit” waist, meaning there is no curve to the rise (the distance between the crotch and the top of the waist), because the original 501s were merely cut down bib overalls which were made to hang, rather than be fitted to the waist. The biggest problem I have noted on the 505′s is the variability in size in the thigh area, meaning that some fit baggy and some seem rather tight, even though they are theoretically the same size of a label. Since the 501s are more forgiving as far as sizing, if you are buying online you might consider them instead of 505s, unless you don’t want the button fly.
